Affliction will put on their second fight card this Saturday night in association with Golden Boy Promotions. Affliction once again has put together a very solid fight and an excellent main event that will see the WAMMA heavyweight title on the line.

Main Card (Pay-Per-View)

Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski – What really can be said for analysis regarding a Fedor fight? Fedor is better than Andrei Arlovski in every aspect of MMA. Fedor’s submission and grappling game are easily far superior to Arlovski’s. Fedor’s striking technique and hand speed are better than Arlovski’s. I’m not really sure what more needs to be said. Defeating both Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski in a six month period should finally quiet the critics who cite Fedor’s lack of top-level opponents as a reason to dethrone him as the best fighter in the world.

As much as Andrei Arlvoski’s trainer Freddie Roach want’s you to believe the Fedor’s boxing is sloppy and Andrei’s is technically superior, it’s simply not true. And even if Roach was correct, none of that matters because this isn’t a boxing match, it’s an MMA title fight.

No one can predict how this fight will go down, other than Fedor that is. This fight ends when, where and how Fedor wants it to end. Winner: Fedor Emelianenko

Josh Barnett vs. Gilbert Yvel – Josh Barnett looks to take the final step forward and earn a shot at Fedor’s heavyweight title with a victory over Gilbert Yvel. Barnett continues to be one of the top heavyweights in MMA today and should be able to handle a journeyman like Yvel without much issue. Barnett’s strength will always be his wrestling game which is well suited for a fight against a striker like Yvel. Look for Barnett to work the fight on the ground and secure a submission sometime in the first or second round. Winner: Josh Barnett

Vitor Belfort vs. Matt Lindland – Vitor Belfort has looked more and more like his “old self” in his past few fights and looks like he finally has his head back in the game which could be a dangerous thing for the rest of the light heavyweight division.

Matt Lindland is a seasoned fighter who uses his experience to his advantage more than most fighters. However, Lindland is slowing down and father time has been catching up with “The Law” lately, and I think Belfort will have too much firepower for him this fight. Lindland will look to take the fight to the ground and work his ground-and-pound game for all three rounds. If Belfort can stuff the first few takedowns and work his standup game I think we could see this fight end early and avoid the judges scorecards. Winner: Vitor Belfort

Renato Sobral vs. Thierry Sokoudjou – Of all the fights on the fight card, this matchup between Renato Sobral and Thierry Sokoudjou has me the most undecided. Both fighters are at a strange point in their careers and neither has looked that good recently.

Sokoudjou is coming off a loss to Luiz Cane and a terrible 1-2 record in the UFC. Sobral just won the Strikeforce light heavyweight belt in November, but only via a doctor stoppage due to a cut. Sobral definitely should be able to win this fight easily if he takes it to the ground and works his strong submission game, but we haven’t seen “Babalu” so eager to do that recently. Sobral has been favoring a tendency to stand and strike and that might give Sokoudjou the setting he needs to get back into the win column.

Sokoudjou is an excellent judo player, but I can’t envision he wants to hit the ground with Sobral so we probably won’t see much clinch work or throws from “The African Assassin.” If Sokoudjou can stay composed and work in some leg and body kicks with his striking he may have a shot. If Sobral fights smart and takes Sokoudjou down, this fight could, and should, be over quickly. Winner: Renato Sobral

Chris Horodecki vs. Dan LauzonThis fight has been dropped from the fight card because Chris Horodecki did not receive medical clearance from the California State Athletic Commission. Horodecki is suffering from a bulging disk in his neck that has reduced his arm strength to approximately 15%. Winner:

Paul Buentello vs Kiril Sidelnikov – Kiril Sidelnikov is most known for being Fedor Emelianenko’s long-time training partner. Sidelnikov has spent his full professional MMA career fighting for M-1 Global and has not faced a fighter of Paul Buentello’s level yet in his career. Buentello most recently fought on the first Affliction fight card last July where he defeated Gary Goodridge via decision. Buentello has only lost twice in his last 13 fights with those losses coming against two of the best in the game, Andrei Arlovski and Alistair Overeem. Buentello should have the overall edge in standup and experience and should take this fight without issue. Winner: Paul Buentello

Jay Hieron vs. Jason HighWinner: Jay Hieron

I think Arlovski has a chance to really win this, however, Fedor will win this. :)

I was honestly really looking forward to the Chris Horodecki vs. Dan Lauzon fight… so that kind of hurts the card, but hey plenty more action with Sobral, and Barnett..

    • R.J. St.Croix says:

yeah its a big bummer for me too (about Horodecki) you know me and my Canuck fighters and its even worse because hes also a home town boy. my son (Dakota) is pretty bummed out too, Chris had some one on one time with him and it seemed to make a big impact with him. lol for about a week every thing that came out of the kids mouth started with “you know what Chris did?” or “you know what Chris said?” oh well at least he didnt fake like he was ok and come out and put on a sh*tty fight.

fedor all the way baby.and about barnett he needs to fight fedor already.

  3. You make it sound like Tim & Andrei are dominate heavyweights Doc. At one time maybe, not the case now. I’ll be impressed when Fedor fights a current dominate heavyweight. Nog just got dominated by Mir and I bet Nog could last more than 30 seconds with Fedor.

My prediction is Fedor submits Andrei about 2 minutes into round 1.

    • Dr J says:

When Fedor fought Tim he was a top 10 heavyweight. Right now Arlovski is considered a top 10 heavyweight and some even have put him back into the top 5. So yeah, there isn’t much more you can do as a fighter than fight guys ranked in the top 10.

    • R.J. St.Croix says:

hey Gatties who are the heavies your referring to? Tim and Andrei have both fought at a high level for some time now, fighting some of the best in the business. your right Fedor could easily win this fight (or any other fight) FAST, but that doesnt mean hes not fighting good fighters Fedor is just THAT good IMO. i know hes gotta beat Brock to prove him self right? or how about Lashley? oh i know, maybe the crafty vet Ric Flair will make the jump and then Fedor will be in for it…. lol.

  4. bvrasp says:

Doc can you post my comment about the affliction weigh in link?? its happenening right now..

      • R.J. St.Croix says:

wow these weigh-ins are as bad if not worse then the last one. for real i got bored waiting for them to show the next two fighter and i have time to come here and write this comment lol.

        • bvrasp says:

haha i know what you mean man, just shows how far they still have to go to even be on par with the UFC professionalism. Even the scale is bush league, looks like it came from Atencios bathroom..

        • R.J. St.Croix says:

you wouldnt think it would be that hard to get a bunch of guys to sit back stage till there called, call them out, weigh them, take a picture or two, send them off, and repeat but for some reason they have an issue pulling it off lol.

  5. R.J. St.Croix says:

lol they gave Fedor a pinky ring, can you see Fedor saying “kiss the ring b*tch” after he spanks Arlovski lol. anyways gotta run, wifey needs the laptop…. peace.

  6. PATRICK says:

  7. R.J. St.Croix says:

is anyone else watching Affliction right now, or am i in this alone? if your not watching because you didnt know, well now you do the undercard is on right now on HDNet check it out.

  8. R.J. St.Croix says:

so far im 1-1 on my picks, the first fight was the hot bout and all i missed was the round so im off to a good start. to bad its only the secondary league.

  9. bvrasp says:

How bout Dan Lauzon? i havent seen acting that bad since Stephan Bonnars last film LOL

  10. R.J. St.Croix says:

WOW what did ya think of Lindland/Befort fight? thats was a bit scary for a minute.

  11. R.J. St.Croix says:

one little tiny mistake and its over man, who is going to be able to stop Fedor? i was even getting a bit jumpy, most of that round Fedor was backing up and looked like he was a bit leery of Arlovskis striking but as soon as Arlovski opened up and got a tiny bit aggressive Fedor made him pay BIG TIME! i was super impressed with the entire card and i really truly hope the can stay afloat and continue putting together great cards like this.
