- For 3:13 seconds of the first round, Andrei Arlovski was easily getting the better of Fedor Emelianenko. If you rewatch the tape, I believe Fedor was a bit staggered with one of Arlovski’s earliest strikes that landed cleaning with his left eye. Fedor appeared to be almost stumbling back quite a bit after that and didn’t have any crispness or accuracy to his strikes. But in the end, Arlovski once again showed how fragile his “glass jaw” really is as Fedor landed a short right that put Arlovski down and out. Fedor’s composure and tactical fighting, even when he appears to be losing is what gives him that edge over his opponents.
- Josh Barnett and Gilbert Yvel put on what was probably the fight of the night in my opinion. Barnett looked strong throughout the whole fight in the face of an unexpectedly strong opposition from Yvel. I’m excited to see a Barnett vs. Fedor matchup later this year.
- Man, how sad was the scene after the Vitor Belfort vs. Matt Lindland fight? A quick KO for Belfort turned into an extremely frightening situation for Lindland. Hopefully he recovers fully. As far as Tito Ortiz saying Vitor could challenge for Anderson Silva’s middleweight title after this one fight… I don’t think so.
- Hopefully, promoters will now stop booking Remeau Sokoudjou in this “high profile” matchups. While Sokou probably won the first round Renato Sobral settled down and fell back on his BJJ game where he is best. “The African Assassin” easily folded from there and until Sokou can learn some ground defense, he won’t win a fight against any mid-level grappler.
- A very nice victory for Paul Buentello who looked very sharp against Kirill Sidelnikov. Give a lot of credit to Sidelnikov who continued to stay in the pocket and trade with Buentello even after taking continous damage.
- I don’t really want to make judgement calls on a fighter’s character when it’s nearly impossible to make an accurate assessment, but I personally think Dan Lauzon should be pretty embarrassed by his performance against Bobby Green. Green was getting the better of Lauzon on the feet until Lauzon was able to secure his choke. All I’m saying is that if I took three hard shots to the groin, I probably wouldn’t be climbing to the top ropes and doing a backflip after the fight ended. I probably wouldn’t want the “vibrations” from the landing.
- Bao Quach, LC Davis, Albert Rios, Antonio Duarte and Brett Cooper all put on excellent performances that made the free, HDNet portion of the undercard fun to watch.
- Arlovski’s trainer Freddie Roach had better seriously reconsider and backtrack on all his pre-fight statements regarding how good Andrei’s boxing skills are. Roach even went so far to say that after fighting Fedor, Andrei would enter professional boxing and quickly challenge for the heavyweight title. It really doesn’t matter how strong Arlovski’s striking is, if he can’t take a punch in return. Defense is just as big a factor in the boxing ring as offense is.
- I know they have only had two fight cards, but Affliction has not put on a poor fight matchup yet. They do need to learn how to run their shows a bit better however. Had the main event gone a full five rounds, it would have run 13 minutes over their Pay-Per-View time window and all of us fans would not have gotten to see the end of the fight.
- While he did a decent job during the fights, Tito Ortiz’s in-ring interviews with the fight winner’s were atrocious. He definitely was extremely nervous and stumbling over his words, but having a guy interview fighters who want a piece of him in the future is a bit awkward.
- I thought Jimmy Smith, of Fight Quest fame, did an excellent job on the broadcast team.
- I can’t wait for the final, official live-gate figures to be released from this event. There was a lot of bad-mouthing going on regarding the attendance both leading up to and during the event. I’m going to say that the attendence was pretty close the the 14,000 that were present for the first Affliction fight card last year.

and now it is time for me to part ways with arlovski lol…
kansas you part ways with wand yet?
Nahh.. not going to, but i have come to realize that his best days are in those Pride FC highlight reels, that we will see glimpses of him here and there if he keeps getting resigned, but the man that he was, is just that, WAS – he is a legend, nothing can change that. If Royce Gracie was fighting GSP tomorrow, I can tell you GSP would win in round one, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t still be cheering for Royce.. ;)
damn his chin is weak i just got done watching that fight… unreal pitbull….. well barnets turn…
come on PAtrick, dont roll over on Arlovski because he lost to Fedor man, hes the best HW in the world and i think hes the best p4p fighter in the world. Arlovski was doing a great job using his boxing, but i think he completely lost his head throwing that flying knee, it seemed like he was trying to make a highlight reel out of Fedor, very bad decision.
I dont think he has a glass jaw either, we all know what kind of power Fedor packs in that right hand, just like we saw with Sylvia, one solid right hand floored him. The guy was in the air when he got hit, theres no way to absorb the shot or roll with the punch when your in the air. It was just a bad move by Andre, he should have kept doing what was working, i wouldnt mind seeing them fight again.
In response people say Tim sucks, Arlovski sucks, etc.. this doesnt say anything about Tim and Andre, it says more about Fedor. HES THE MAN, tired of people making excuses saying hes overrated, open your eyes people, Fedor is king.
kiss the ring btch! :)
BINGO! Andrei AND Tim could both hang in there with any fighter in the world…. except Fedor, and there is almost no one on the list of guys who could so not a bad thing right? Arlovski looked awesome last night, but he opened that window for just a split second and thats all Fador needs.
i think arloski stunned fedor at least twice in the fight fedor wasnt looking that good until the ko,fedor is the man.but what about yvel what heart that guy has.
yeah man, i dont like Yvel but i gotta give props hes was getting mauled that entire fight and held on till the very end.
Those who have always criticized Fedor will continue to. Those who believe he’s always been the real deal, will continue to as well. I just found the fight video online and I can’t believe how much smaller Fedor is than Arlovski.
And yes, Fedor looked off and his critics can say that he should of lost, but in the end, he won BY KO!!! enough said.
Barnett won’t beet fedor…what y’all think??????
i dont think so,arlovski i think has a way better chance
yea…. andrei was just a dip **** and got cocky with that flying knee
I have to say that I think people are still giving Arlovski more credit for how he fought than to Fedor having an awful night. I really don’t get what many are hinting at…should Fedor fight Arlovski 20 more times to see if Arlovski can win a few?
gotta disagree with you on this one Amir, i dont think Fedor had an off night and Arlovski did perform well while he stuck to his gameplan. Should they fight 20 more times? obviously not, but i wouldnt mind seeing them go at it again. But i would rather see Fedor fight someone else so he can continue to clean out the entire worlds HW division, i just wanna see what the haters will say then.
ok boys… st pierre or penn? whos gonna take it… im pickin st pierre
penn
You disagree with me? that’s a surprise?lol
The Fedor haters will always be there, especially hater numero uno Dana White. I still think Fedor had an off night, and I did see the grainy fight video online so it was not as clear as TV, but, Fedor did look tentative and had trouble dealing with Arlovski’s size…but that’s what makes him the greatest, he can take a beating and he always finds a way to win…
