Croation website dnevnik.hr has a video interview up with Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic in which Filipovic implies that he will return to the UFC and fight at UFC 99 this June in Germany.

While I’m sure most of you don’t speak or understand Croatian, neither do I. Robert from betwwx.com was kind enough to do a quick translation and pass the info along to us.

Interviewer: How is your knee?
Well every thing is all right. They didn’t amputate my leg so I guess the operation was a success. (Joking) I’m satisfied with the recovery. Its getting better every day. I’m doing some light work.

Interviewer: You’re doing some weight work/upper body work at the moment?
That’s right. I’m mostly working from my back. I cant use my legs. I plan to start boxing in April.

I was better prepared than your average knee reconstruction patient. I was putting of the operation for quite some time and in the mean time was doing the required exercise for recovery. So my comeback will be ahead of schedule. Six days after my operation I was already doing some exercises. I plan to be using both my hands and legs in sparing and ground work in May.

Interviewer: Where will you make your comeback?
There is a great possibility that I will be fighting for the UFC in Cologne, Germany. I don’t know my opponent yet. But I’m very confident that we’ll come to an agreement with the UFC and that I’ll fight for them in June. There are other offers on the table also.

Interviewer: Do you have any idea as to who you’ll face?
I’ve heard that I could be facing Randy Couture. That would a great. Then again its not up to me or him but management so we’ll have to wait and see. But I’m sure he’d also be interested in that fight.

I’d most prefer to be a free agent and fight up to six times a year but that is unlikely.

it may not be the best idea to face a great wrestler like Randy with a questionable knee. sprawling, balance, and clinch work can all be compromised with a bum knee, Mirko would be better off asking for a striker who not going to try and put him on his back and molest him IMO.

Yeah I remember how freakin huge a disappointment he was, but Ive been watching his most recent fights and I think he might be getting back to his old self.

One last thing UFC 99 is in Germany

Ok guys, lets start the banter, Diego vs Joe Daddy, WOW im completely on the fence for this fight. I like both these guys so its kind of a no win situation but its gonna be a hell of a scrap, oh yes, there will be blood.

Probably the biggest unknown is how Diego will perform at 155, from what ive read he has dropped 38 lbs since December to get ready for his move to LW. I can see either guy winning this fight at any time by any method, but theyre both so tough it will probably go the distance.

I still havent made my picks, but they have Joe Daddy as a BIG underdog on the playground, thats pushing me to lean towards Joe in this fight because i think its very close to even. But again, it will all depend on how Diego performs after cutting this much weight for the first time.

    • R.J. St.Croix says:

im with ya man, its been a real tough one for me to pick. right now i have Sanchez by decision because i think he can edge Stevenson out in most aspects, BUT the drop to 155lbs is a big question mark right now so who knows right. one thing i remember Diego saying awhile back the reason he likes fighting at 170lbs. is because he doesnt like cutting a lot of weight so he can keep a high pace at all times, so i guess we’ll have to see if the bigger cut affects that.

      • bvrasp says:

Ya its not just that its a huge cut, i think the real issue is that its his FIRST cut to 155. Usually when a fighter switches weight its a good idea to have a tuneup fight, feel out the situation see how his endurance and strength are affected, etc… In this case, Diego is basically bypassing the enitre division and fighting the #3 guy at 155. If he beats Joe he cant fight someone like Tyson Girffin, hes gotta fight Sherk, Kenny or BJ (whoever doesnt have the belt) then if he wins that fight its a title shot next for sure.

I like Diego and i would love to see Diego vs Kenny 2 but it a bit unfair to all the other guys trying to work their way up for him to leapfrog ahead of them like that.

        • R.J. St.Croix says:

yeah i agree its a bit of a kick in the nuts to everyone else in the division to bounce Sanchez to the front of the pack but you know how it is with the TUF guys (no pun intended) Daddy got his shot and didnt pull it off so let just see if Sanchez can get there. you know Dana love the idea of TUF guys holding titles, it help to legitimize the whole thing.
