Sam Caplan is reporting that the main event of UFC 98 has been cancelled due to injury.

According to the report, current UFC interim heavyweight champion Frank Mir injured his back and has been unable to train for the upcoming fight. The injury may be serious enough to require surgery.

Mir was scheduled to meet UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar in a title unification bout that would crown an undisupted heavyweight champion.

It is unknown at this time whether or not Lesnar will remain on the fight card.

UFC 98 is currently scheduled for May 23 in Las Vegas, NV. Other scheduled bouts include Matt Hughes vs. Matt Serra, Yushin Okami vs. Dan Miller, and Sean Sherk vs. Frank Edgar.
