Yeah…. until Thiago Alves knocks him out.. which … will happen folks lolz
is that before or after BJ whoops his asss lol. sorry had to do it, i dont know why you doubt my boy but i think your in for a heart breaker with Thiago. i see GSP putting Alves on his back over and over and breaking him down before he pounds him out after 2 or 3 rounds…… WITHOUT LUBE lol.
RJ… Thiago is massive… and he will be the best striker/athlete that GSP has ever fought, if its a stand up war… Thiago WINS.. GSP doesn’t knock people out.. he as of late has withdrawn to simply being a faster more athletic version of Matt Hughes, the wrestler GNP.. basically a Canadian Matt Hughes V2.0
IF he can get Thiago on his back, he will have the fight, but if Thiago can stuff the take downs, maintain his striking position as BJ did in round one, he can knock GSP out as we have all seen… BJ just didn’t have the size, strength, or cardio to win… Alves has all that, great subs and sick striking… it isn’t going to be easy for GSP its the biggest challenge for him yet, a REAL welterweight challenge, the ONLY real welterweight challenge..
i agree with you on Alves being the biggest test for St.Pierre AND you got a good point with the Matt Hughes 2.0 thing. but like you said about GSP has to get the fight to the ground to win, i dont think Thiago can stop the takedown forever and St.Pierre has good enough standup to hang with Alves till that takedown comes. no one has stopped GSPs takedown yet, people claim Penn has some of the best takedown defense he got put on his back, Hughes and Koscheck a both great wrestlers, both ended up on there back, ive even seen videos of GSP mauling Rashad Evens in the wrestling and not only is Rashad a great wrestler but hes huge compared to a welterweight. as much as this fight is going to be a test for Georges as long as he come prepared (mentally and physically) he will take this one, St.Pierre is just the better over all fighter IMO.
good job to the MMAHQ camp on mmaplayground tonight, i finally got bumped out of first place. i would say i had a bad night but i didnt really (im still at my 50 or more points goal) it just looks like everyone else had a great night. four more to go for this season hopefully i can keep this trend of 50 point or more.
p.s. BV where the hell are your picks?
aw man…….. My cousin was using my computer and he logged himself in to the playground, i didnt notice that, so when i was making my picks, it was under chosen141 profile… sucks bigtime, i had 54 points on this event so i would have been in 6th place with 270.
Instead im pretty much out of the runnings for this season because of 1 little mistake. I gonna message someone at the site to see if i can get that reversed somehow, wish me luck.
man that blows HUGE! i’ll say good luck on getting it fixed, but i think your screwed. sucks too i like the idea of lots of people being close to the top because if gives everyone more motivation to do better.
Finally took first back. I had a couple set backs the last couple event but finally had a good event. This season has been the most competitive so far. Good night of fights hopefully everyone conyinues to do well.
dont get too comfortable in that number one spot cuz im not gonna let you hold it long lol. i was upset last night not only did i drop out of first but now im tied (with nurse Laura) for second, so now im coming back with a vengeance MUWAHAHA!! lol.
GSP is far from a Canadian version of Matt Hughes. GSP is more athletic, has better wrestling, has better jiu jitsu, has much better striking, has a better accent, and isn’t a complete ****. Matt Hughes is and was a one-dimensional fighter. GSP is one of the most complete fighters in MMA, period.
If your point was that he is fighting more like Matt Hughes as of late (and there are tons of fighters other than Hughes who have a wrestling GNP style) then I think you have a better point, but still not a great one.
GSP relies on his wrestling and GNP more than he has in the past. But he’s still fights a much more complete game than Matt Hughes ever did.
Even when he relies on wrestling, he still does his fair share of fighting on the feet. He beat the crap out of Fitch for 5 rounds on the feet.
In the fight against Penn he spent the entire first round striking, and beat him handily. Even in rounds 2, 3, and 4, whenever they were standing he was beating Penn.
I’m kind of rambling here, but I hope you get my point.
As for his fight with Alves. You’re right, Alves is the best striker that he has faced. That works both ways though. GSP is the best striker that Alves has ever faced.
Alves has the advantage on the feet, but GSP will hold his own quite well. The big difference here, is that GSP has better jiu jitsu, and has much better wrestling.
Sure, Alves has good TDD. But if GSP could take Penn down almost at will. Pass Penn’s guard, almost at will. Then he will not have the same issues with Alves, even with the 15 pound weight difference.
Look at the Koscheck fight. Koscheck was the best wrestler in the UFC based on credentials (and good performances). But GSP completely out wrestled him. He took him down at will, and he passed almost at will as well.
