UFC 2009 Undisputed

At MMA HQ we have been discussing, analyzing, and hyping THQ’s upcoming UFC 2009 Undisputed video game.

Well, the wait is finally over (sort of) for all MMA gamers. The UFC Undisputed demo is currently available for download on XBox LIVE. The demo is also scheduled to be released for PlayStation 3 as well today, but I cannot confirm it’s availability since I do not have access to a PS3.

I have been playing the demo for a few days now, along with a few loyal readers here at MMA HQ, and I must say that we all are having a blast.

Sure no video game will ever be perfect, but so far, I’ve got very few complaints with UFC Undisputed. My real only complaint is the fact that I now have to wait nearly a full month before getting my hands on the full game and the ability to play as any fighter I want.

So, once all of you get your hands on the game today (or if you have already been playing it the past few days), use this post as a discussion thread to talk about UFC Undisputed.

What do you love?

What do you hate?

Any tips, tricks or techniques to share?

Talk about it here.

good idea Doc, now we wont clutter up all the others with our game chatter.
the thing i love about this game? almost everything.
the thing i hate about this game? almost nothing.
a tip: dont step to me unless you enjoy being KTFO lol.
about the only complaint i have with this game is they should have made offense and defense a little more even on the ground eg:if your on top in mount and you try a submission 9.5 times out of 10 the end result will be you on the bottom in side control, making you not want to even bother trying it. also if you have someone in a bad spot on the ground (like mounted) it is nearly impossible to keep them there AND effectively work any G’n'P, making the position a LOT less of a problem then in real life. i would have preferred to have the ground work more skill and less button mash, but then again in a mass market they need to make it suitable for any and all players. over all the game has met and exceeded my expectations.
p.s. on day one of game release me and Harold Howard will be taking challenges from victims far and wide, so if you would like to get you name on the list of the fallen add “Jack LeChat” as a friend on XBox live and get in line lol.

ok guys i dont get it i cant pull of a sub for my life but every time in the 1st round on expert shogun gets me wtf!!!!!!!! is their a trick to pulling off subs or im a just a freaking retard and cant get it yet

  3. bvrasp says:

Nizzy, theres no special trick just mash the buttons or rotate the right stick after you have it locked in. You will have a hard time submitting someone fresh in the 1st round, try beating the guy up for a while, after hes weakened then hes easier to sub.

Shogun on expert, you will never submit him and you will have very little chance of stopping him from submitting you. Its the computer on expert he just counters everything on the ground dont waste your time even fighting him on the ground.

  4. Flip The Switch says:

I would have liked to see some other notable fighters like Clay Guida, Paul Taylor, Sam Stout, Shane Carwin, etc…and you can’t have a great UFC game w/o the “natural” Randy Couture…pretty disappointed that he’s not featured in this game…i guess his relationship w/the UFC is still up in the air….maybe he’ll be in it, if 2010 is in the cards….

  5. Pyro says:

I think Chuck Liddel’s superman punch is pretty broken. 99% of the time I play on expert and loss is because I get KOed by his superman punch. No matter how bad I’m beating him I get hit by that and it is almost always good night. It wouldn’t be so bad if it was easily countered or if there was an actual risk in doing it (like in real life).

while Chucks superman punch is very powerful it doesnt HAVE to end your night every time. the is a bunch of things you can do to keep from get KOed by it.
#1 quickly tap up on the right stick to counter it and end up in the Muay Thai plum.
#2 flick away from him on the left stick to do a quick dodge, setting up a nice counter.
#3 throw a front kick or body punch, if you do it quick enough it will stop him dead.
#4 shoot for the takedown, he can avoid it OR stop it in the middle of a superman.
#5 just cover up, if Chuck is in the right range to land it keep moving and keep your hands up.
there is other ways to stop it also but you get the idea and if you learn who to do these things it wont be long before you figure out the rest.cardio means something if you throw till your almost gassed and you get hit with something big you’ll get KOed, pace your self. and last if you throw wild you’ll get KOed, if you get caught mid strike it a lot worse then just getting hit, pick your shots dont throw head kicks and multiple hook unless there is good chance they will land, and if you land one or two dont keep throwing step out and reset.
hope some of this helps you.

  6. Duce says:

It’s freaking impossible to get out of a mount once the CPU gets you onto it.

    • R.J. St.Croix says:

goto the tutorial and learn major transitions, then its a matter of timing it right. giving up your back is not at all a bad thing in the game and if you give him your back and wait for your moment its easy to get back to your feet.
