DREAM.9 Open Weight Tournament

DREAM officially announced an “open weight” tournament that will begin at the upcoming DREAM.9 fight card this May.

The “Super Hulk” tournament features fighters from various weightclasses and even a former professional baseball player.

MLB steroid poster-boy, Jose Canseco will be in the eight-man tournament and make his professional MMA debut against Hong Man Choi.

Former DREAM middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi will be the smallest competitor in the field and will fight super heavyweight Mark Hunt in the opening round.

Japanese fan favorite Bob Sapp will fight Ikuhisa Minowa while Jan Nortje will match up against Rameau Sokoudjou.

DREAM.9 will also feature the second round of the 2009 DREAM Featherweight Grand Prix and is currently scheduled for May 26 in Japan.

LOL Doc is this another april fools gag? Canseco fighting in the dream OW tourney? does he get a bat?

Mousasi vs Hunt? wtf? is this guy trying to end his career early or somehing?

Minowa against Sapp, that should be funny.. prediction, Sapp gasses during the walk to the ring, Minowa does a cartwheel and a sommersault then secures the heel hook.

This whole card is based on shock factor, wow Dream is getting really cheesy these days….

lol but even with a thick layer of stanky cheese, tell me you dont wanna see it? as much as these fights make no sense they are going to be funny as hell so it makes it all ok lol.

      • Dr J says:

very true. thats one of the main reasons I’ll be watching. Just to see what happens.

Especially that Mousasi vs. Hunt fight.

        • bvrasp says:

Ofcourse im gonna watch it boys lol, it may be a circus but i like the circus.

Ofcourse there are some serious MMA fights on this card too so that gives it some more appeal.

          JZ vs Kawajiri
Jacare vs Mayhem for the MW title

plus we get to see Kid, Imanari and Sokoudjou back in action.

all together it makes…. a less than stellar fight card, but hey we take what we can get right?

Heres a clip of Canseco Boxing against some ex football player http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CJn9n0UKOA

To be Honest, i cant forsee a different outcome for Jose now that hes going up against an actual fighter.

  4. coffee break says:

it’s as if Jose Canseco enjoys exposing himself to as much public ridicule as possible
