Amir, get off your high horse. I'm glad you're not a matchmaker or promoter. It's a highly anticipated grudge match that deserves multiple promos and co-mainevent status. Their styles also make for a great fight. Serra has better standup, Hughes has better takedowns, Serra has better submissions, and Hughes has better conditioning.
And Hughes is a jerk while Serra's a loud mouth that tells is the way it is. Hughes was laughing like an idiot when Serra whooped GSP. On the show he puts down his own fighters, berates them. Blames their losses on them and not his coaching. He throws religion in their face like a jerk. Meanwhile, Serra just reacts verbally to Hughes' attitude and behavior.

That is true... but GSP is doing that too everyone recently.

Was Hughes not dominated?

Penn?

Getting dominated by GSP does not make you a bad fighter at all, it just makes GSP a cyborg lol.

thanks for reading and thanks for the comment! :)

Serra's win over GSP may or may not have been a fluke, but regardless of whether or not it was there has never been a fight in which one opponent was so completely dominated by the other than the rematch between GSP and Serra. People can argue if Matt threw a lucky punch all they want, but they cannot argue the fact he was completely owned the second time around.

Yeah... not excited about this either way it goes.... I am more interested in GSP v Alves - - Franklin V Wand - - Shogun V Unlucky Fighter - - A. Silva V Griffin ********** oh yeah, and BJ V Florian... no predictions there until the weigh ins simply because I have to see what mindset BJ is in .... you can kinda gauge how the fights gonna go depending on what "mood" BJ is in...

I don't see how this fight is even relevent anymore, let alone, a main event? ludicrous...now we all have to sit through a barrage of nonstop "bad blood" promos for a fight that should have happened last century.

Why not just promote a streetfight between them if the entire concept of relevent, meaningful matchmaking has gone completely out the window?

Im a long time Hughes fan, i was never really impressed with Serra though i always respected him as a BJJ guy and hes good friends with Genki Sudo so that made me warm up to Serra a bit too. After his stint on the comeback my respect for Serra went through the roof, he did a great job throughout the entire season both inside and outside the cage.

Serra vs GSP, i wouldnt say it was just pure luck, it was definatly a low percentage outcome but we gotta give Serra some credit man. He busted his azz training and he had a great gameplan, he threw the punch and it landed. Luck played a factor like it does in every fight but Serra deserves respect for what was the biggest cinderella story in MMA history.

Now what bothered me was after he became champ, he started appearing on top 10 lists and pound for pound lists, in my opinion thats ridiculous. I applaud his accomplishments but his day in the sun is over.

During TUF Serra vs Hughes, we saw a different Matt Serra than in the comeback, he was alot more cocky and he was more of a d1ck than Hughes ever was. Maybe that belt does something to you? imagine what Serra would be like if he held the title as long as Hughes did?

As for the actual fight... im with Hughes all the way, GNP, TKO etc, etc...

After the fight i would like to see Hughes hang it up because its obvious that the sport has passed him by, he hasnt evolved at all which is clearly evident when you compare the old and new Hughes to the old and new GSP.

Serra is also washed up, i think theyre the same age too, if he wanted to make a run at 155 that would be fine but the division is just so stacked these days i couldnt see him getting very far before hanging it up himself.

Hey man,

I personally really really dislike serra. I think he is a cocky, arrogant punk, basically how you feel about Hughes haha.
You said he is a "Real funny/laid back, but if you piss him off he lets you know about it." I think he has a VERY short fuse which is why he "lets you know about it" so often and probably why most fans IMO hate him s much.

GO HUGHES!!!

i think both guys have a bit of an attitude problem, and im not really all that excited about this fight. as far as who i think wins this, Hughes should be able to take Serra down and control him enough to get the nod, but on the other hand the soon to be retired Hughes might be open to the KO and Serra has heavy hands. and i dont see ether one being the #1 contender again, the top guys in the welterweight division kill both of them at this point and i think both are too late in there career to do anything about it. my prediction for this fight: Matt Hughes wins via unanimous decision, announces his retirement, Joe Rogan thanks him for everything, a week later Matt Serra announces hes moving to lightweight where he might stand a chance lol or something like that.

Obnoxious coach? The guy did a great job coaching on TUF, he actually motivated his guys where as all Hughes seemed to do was freak out and yell when they lost.

Sure his accent might be annoying to some, but hey i'm used to it seeing as how I was born and raised in Long Island NY (same place Serra lives). Although I don't have the accent myself haha.

Serra is a real cool guy in my opinion. Real funny/laid back, but if you piss him off he lets you know about it. He's real and he stands up for what he believes in.

Don't get me wrong, I respect Matt Hughes a lot. But from what I have seen of him personally, he's like a highschool bully.

Thanks for reading and thanks for the comments :)
