thought you might like that Kansas

      • MMAKansas says:

Yes… thanks – I know his days are limited but it’s like driving a car for a long time, you develop a relationship.

I discovered Wanderlei while I was living in Brazil back in 2001… They show Pride there for free during the evenings, or used to.. and I was up one night watching tv in my house, he was killing some dude… I was like, that dude is the baddest man I have ever seen fight, and I thought to myself, there isn’t a man on the planet that could whip him… he fought… angry, and he fought MEAN.. and I loved it!

I was hooked from then on… so for 8 years he’s been my fav. fighter..

Out of all the legends from ERA 3 – I think that Wand takes the cake for excitement, over anyone.. there are others that are more “complete” of course but I still get nervous when he fights, my heart beats out of my chest, its like I am 10 again waiting to get on the biggest roller coaster in the world…

Personally, I feel that if he could kick a downed opponent like he was doing in Pride, he would have done so to both Chuck Liddell and Rich Franklin, coughing up W’s instead of L’s.. lucky for those guys the UFC one battle of the org’s..

Nice find doc, its amazing to see a guy whos small for 205 taking on guys like Fujita, Hunt and crocop. I mean Royce was taking on big guys but he totally outclassed them on the ground and avoided most of the damage. Wandy stands toe to toe with these big guys and he definately held his own, especially with that KO of Fujita.

Or to sum it all up ill take a page out of Kansas book…

    WOW!!

  2. Amir says:

F–k man, Wandi & Rampage…what a historic rivalry. Brought out the best in each other. Wish they could become friends and ride into the sunset.

  3. patrick says:

yo doc… did ya take that top talkers features off your site??

  4. patrick says:

damn silva was a bad ***** back in the day!!

  5. MMAKansas says:

I think Alves will beat GSP, simply because GSP wont be able to take him down, too much strength, too fast, too young… he’s got reflexes and enough muscle to keep on his feet and in the striking game, Thiago has more power, better kicks… I think he ends this in the 2nd round.. just me…

    • bvrasp says:

lol Kansas you just hate GSP, i bet you anything GSP will take him down just like everyone else hes ever faced regardless of wrestling pedigree. Its not just strength, GSP is an amazing wrestler man, he should represent canada in the olympics and hes not even a wrestler.

I would be very surprised to see georges lose this fight..

      • R.J. St.Croix says:

yeah i dont think GSP will have much trouble taking Alves down when ever he wants to, i think the first kick Thiago throws will get him taken down, and that will have him iffy about throwing them. i will say Thiago has good reflexes, we have all seen what happens when you lower you head with him but guys like Hughes, Parisyan, and DeSouza are not dangerous strikers so if they fake the shot its not too dangerous to rush in guns blazing. St.Pierre is a good enough striker to hang with Alves when he needs to and has good enough wrestling to take it down when he needs to. im expecting to see GSP make Thiago afraid to strike (for fear of the takedown) leaving GSP open to give a mix of picking him apart and G’n'P. if Thiago wins this fight it will happen in round one with Thiago landing a bomb early and hurting St.Pierre. one last thing i dont know if anyone has touched on, weight cut, is a big cut for Alves going to allow him to keep a high tempo for 5 rounds? GSP has great cardio and keeps up a pretty good pace, can a partially drained Alves keep up?

  6. MMAKansas says:

I think Alves does land the bomb in the first or even second round, I think he will come out and weather ANYTHING striking wise that GSP can throw, GSP has NEVER KO’ed anyone that I know of, it’s all GNP, he can land a good shot, but he couldn’t even KO or TKO Penn and he pounded the guys head in for 2 full rounds.

GSP’s shoulders and arms are too thing on muscle to drop Thiago with one or two shots, on the other end, Thiago has the power to do the job.

Thiago is becoming a new sort of Wand for our gen, and he is 23, same age Wand was when his career took off. Be careful about underestimating him and over glorifying your french boy, cause this could be GSP’s last week as champ, or not, but still, I think Alves is a pretty good opponent and could take this fight in 1 or 2.

All that being said, GSP is a great champion, and I admire his athleticism and work ethic in the cage, he could very well win this via GNP or UD – he will not however knock out ALVES, to say that is worse than me predicting a round 5 KO for ALVES via GNP or head kick.. lolz

    • bvrasp says:

well ill say this Kansas, you definately make a better point than Gatties lol. Everyone seems to agree that Alves best chance to win the fight is by KO in the first 2 rounds, no question he has the power and skill to do that (if Serra can knock him on his ***.. then.. hehe).

Just so you know Kansas, GSP does have KO power in both his punches and kicks. Perhaps you remember one fight where he kicked Hughes in the nuts 3 times, then faked the kick to the nuts and threw the head kick that knocked out Hughes LOL.

Sad to say, illegal moves work in MMA man lol, Chuck has benefited greatly from his pattented eyepoke combo. It was so blatant in his fight with tito, eyepoke-punch-punch-punch lol what a combo.

Maybe GSP greased, if you believe that then he also got away with it, who knows what he will bring for Thiago. Hes the pitbubll, maybe a shock collar or a bone or something.. i dunno man.. wtf am i talking about? lol

      • MMAKansas says:

        ALL THAT?! lOLZ

        Yes.. I agree… hehe

      • R.J. St.Croix says:

i like where this topic is going lol. for real though i like these back and forths on close matchups, everyone has there thoughts on how the fight will go and more often then not it goes a totally different direction then we ALL thought. Kansas has a very good point about power, Thiago has that “stiffen-you-up” sort of power, and GSP has that “now-your-in-trouble” sort of power. so its gonna be who can put that power on the other when it counts. Thiago has shown if you open up for it he will put you away, and GSP has shown if you make a mistake you pay with your ***. my question is if Thiago gets put on his back and starts getting beat up how will he handle it, im not going to even question them on the feet because in a pure kickboxing match im sure Alves wins 7 of 10 or better, but this is not kickboxing so we will see how things play out.

  7. bvrasp says:

ok boys, MMA Live is hosting the weighins at 6:30 est heres the link http://assets.espn.go.com/livenow/ufc100/

  8. MMAKansas says:

Wow.. MIR looked fantastic today… if he doesn’t test positive for something… I will be relieved, he looked THAT good, hopefully it’s just a renewed work ethic.

Pierre is gonna have his hands full, I don’t need to say the same for Thiago, but judging by Pierre’s elbow, Thiago needs to avoid that take down at all costs, it’s pretty obvious from the pictures what GSP’s game is.. DON’T STAND AND STRIKE.. and GSP will NOT slug it out with our boy, it will be a quick feel out…. a superman punch…. and he will begin his take down attempts… same as usual.

Coleman looked good, Jon Jones is gonna win so good tomorrow, I like that kid and hope he does good.

Lesnar’s body is deflating rapidly, anyone else notice that without his roids he looks pretty deflated? Well… I did. I am rooting for MIR with all my heart and he looks strong enough to have a go at it so lets see.

Did anyone else notice Lorenzo’s PRIDE t-shirt? :) What was that about?

    • R.J. St.Croix says:

haha yeah the FIRST thing i noticed was the Pride tee, i was kinda thinking maybe its a jab at them, sorta like “look its our 100th show, oh yeah remember these guys? to bad there gone.”

i like Jones too, the guy is SO fun to watch and if he continues doing what hes doing he’ll do good just because people will have a hard time training for him due to pure unpredictability.

i know what you mean about Lesnar melting, by the time hes 50 those titties will be saggin like an African granny lol.

Mir looks like you would think Brock SHOULD look like, at least if he gets killed tonight he can move on to being an underwear model or something lol.

as ugly as GSP elbow is he will be just fine, its just some fluid buildup. im sure it hurts a bit but not enough to cause an issue, he will most likely have it drained at some point today (if hes smart he’ll drain it) and it wont look bad again till after the fight.

tonight will be the first time i order a p.p.v. in HD, im so hyped for tonight i cant wait. me and some buddies gathered round my 52″ LCD watching the fights in glorious 1080p. when ever i watch Dream on HDNet it looks so good i can count the beads of sweat on a fighters back lol.
