Randy Couture

Following his loss to Antonio Nogueira in the main event of UFC 102, Randy Couture announced that he had signed a new six-fight contract with the UFC.

The new contract will replace Couture’s existing contract and will cover a potential total of six fights over a period of 28 months.

“We just signed a new contract, today [August 29]. 28 months, six more fights. The opportunity to stay with the organization was my motivation. The way things are going this is the place to be. I intend to finish my career here in the UFC. I’m going to take it one fight at a time as I did 12 years ago when I started this thing. I’ll see where that goes. I’m interested in interesting fights. There’s a lot of guys in both divisions that are interesting to fight.”

At the age of 46, the UFC hall of famer is clearly slowing down and showing his age. My question is this: do any of us really want to see Randy fight six more times? Do any of us really want to see Randy fight until age 48 or 49? Does Zuffa really think Randy Couture is that big of a name draw that he is worth fighting until he his half a century old?

I, for one, and not interested in seeing Randy vs. Chuck IV. I’m not interested in seeing Randy vs. Tito II. I’m not even interested in seeing Randy vs. Mirko.

Yea, this is about as stupid a deal as I’ve ever seen. Only thing missing from the stench of this is an infamous Dana White “big announcement” to precede it.

I still don’t understand how Thiago was the underdog, I came so close to dropping some dough on him but couldn’t pull the trigger.

MMA PLAYGROUND has de-activated my account and no matter how many times I tried to log on, they kept denying me and never sent me a re-activation email.

Overall, a good card though…I didn’t think Vera would win actually.

Amir, what happened to your account on the playground? i can attest to the fact that the moderators on that site are not very good at their job, i know because ive modded many sites myself over the years.

When i had problems on the site (by not noticing my cousin was signed in on my pc which messed up both our picks) i talked to mod about it and i almost got banned because he thought i was trying to cheat somehow. Theres alot more to modding than just arbitrarily banning people…..

Randy probably should hang it up. but they could build a lot of talent with wins over him. I’d like to see a tito rematch just so the count down show will show the infamous spanking. hope to god we dont have to see randy and chuck 4. they could have randy fight coleman for a oldtimers title. lol

I dunno guys, i think your being a bit harsh on Randy here. Yes hes old, yes hes slowed down but the standup has never been his game anyways. I personally still think he could give alot of guys problems on the ground (assuming he gets the top position).

Considering he has faced a monster in Lesnar and argueably the best HW sub guy in the world in Nog in his past 2 fights, that doesnt necessarily mean hes done.

Although its pretty interesting how adamant Dana is about Chuck hanging it up and yet he has no problem signing Randy for 6 more fights at his age.

I could see Randy and Tito meeting again when you consider that neither guy is in title contention and theyre both big names in MMA, it makes sense to have that rematch. Depending on his performance, Vitor could potentially meet Randy in the cage again. As for Chuck, its very possible in my opinion, it might not be relevant but you have to admit, they always put on a great show.

I’m not saying Randy can’t still be competitive, but for me as an MMA fan, there really is no one that I am looking forward to seeing Randy fight.

A fight with Chuck, Tito, Vitor, Coleman, etc… None of those interest me personally, but that’s just me.

I would like to see him fight Anderson Silva at 205 .. it would be great because Anderson looks flabby at 205 and Couture would look like Adonis at 205 cutting the excess from his frame, he would be stronger than Anderson.

The reflexes issue could kill him in the first round, but if he manages to get inside A Silva’s takedown perimeter, he could take A silva down, if Hendo can, then Couture definately can .. and work him over with elbows ect, A Silva is not near as strong or effective as Nog on the ground, he’s good, world class, but not NOG class…

        • R.J. St.Croix says:

as far as i can tell Anderson has almost zero takedown defense, everyone who wanted to take him down (and was able to get close enough to do so) has got him down. if Randy got Anderson on his back i would have no doubt he could maul him as long as he wants, but the problem is getting inside for that takedown. Randy gets inside with striking and head movement but the striking is not completely effective, Anderson doesnt have a problem exchanging with someone in order to land that big shot so i dont think Randy really has the right tools to deal with him.

  4. Banned2 says:

Randy can still do well depending on who he fights. he in no way should be a contender for any title. but his fight with big nog was very good. Vitor would probably kill him if they fight again. not shur if they would being from the same camp. there are some good fight left for him just not top teir people like anderson or machida.

  5. Banned2 says:

anyone ever notice the obvious lie that is Randy’s height? they have said he is 6 foot 1 and at 102 suddenly he is 6 foot 2. well I don’t even think he is 6 foot even. I bet hes around 5″10 or so. did you see the height difference between him and Nog? or how about Brock. they stood a good 3 or 4 inches above him. how many other fighters lie about their height. why does the athletic comm. not regulate this?

    • R.J. St.Croix says:

ive noticed this before and i think lots of fighters embellish a bit. ive met quite a few fighters and im just as tall as most of them being 6 foot even, sometimes you even see them being listed as shorter, i have a pic with David Loiseau and you can clearly see his probably 2 or 3 inches taller then me but they list him as 6′ even lol. i dont the any commission would bother to regulate this due to the fact that an inch here or there isnt a fight changing problem.
