Round 5 MMA UFC Collector Series 1

MARKHAM, Ontario, Canada, September 29, 2009 – Its landmark marketing partnership freshly in place, Round 5 is pleased to announce the members of the first series of collectible figurines under the UFC brand, a group of six accomplished fighters, as announced today by Barron Lau, Round 5 CEO and co-founder and Damon Lau, president and co-founder. Figurines for stars Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell, George “Rush” St. Pierre, “Suga” Rashad Evans, Kenny “KenFlo” Florian, Clay “The Carpenter” Guida and Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida are scheduled to be available at retail and at www.Round5MMA.com early next year.

The six collectibles will be presented in a new UFC-themed packaging that includes action photos of each respective fighter’s memorable moments as well as a short biography.

“These six athletes provide a strong, varied base for our first UFC series,” said Damon Lau. “There are established champions like Chuck Liddell and George St. Pierre, popular up-and-comers like Rashad Evans and Kenny Florian and guys like Clay Guida and Lyoto Machida who have loyal, growing followings.”

“We think fans will really connect to these collectibles through their detail and the enhanced packaging,” said Barron Lau. “We want them to feel that by owning a Round 5 figurine, they, in a sense, own a piece of that fighter.”

The issuance of UFC Series 1 signals the discontinuation of the previous Round 5 Series. The remaining inventory from the 17 figurines issued in the previous four Series under that brand will continue to be available while supplies last. Limited editions and other special versions of the UFC Series 1 athletes are also in the planning stages.

“The Limited Editions we have issued have been wildly popular, so we are definitely looking at expanding those offerings,” added Barron Lau.

Liddell, one of the most popular MMA fighters ever, held the UFC light heavyweight belt for two years, using his devastating striking skills to rack up a 21-7 record, including 13 knockouts, against a top-shelf list of opponents since his 1998 debut at UFC 17. He also showed his power by ending all five of his successful title defenses with a KO or TKO.

St. Pierre is often mentioned on the short list of top “pound-for-pound” fighters in MMA, and he’s backed up that distinction with wins in his last six bouts, all headliners, to raise his overall mark to 19-2. The UFC welterweight champion proudly represents his native Montreal, Canada.

Evans has shed his underdog status with a series of standout victories, moving to light heavyweight after winning The Ultimate Fighter 2 television series as a heavyweight. Now 13-1-1, successive wins over Michael Bisping, Liddell and Forrest Griffin were surprises to many and earned “Suga” his first title shot earlier this year, a loss to Machida.

Florian is another graduate of The Ultimate Fighter who has fulfilled his promise, springboarding from his strong performance in TUF 1 to post an 11-4 record and headline cards. He has also branched out to the media side of the sport as a weekly host of MMA Live on ESPN and several UFC color commentary stints.

Guida has ridden strong conditioning, action-packed fights and a flashy style to a prolific MMA career, with 35 bouts (25 wins) to his credit. Known as “The Carpenter” for his previous career while he trained and fought for his chance, Guida is a frequent “Fight of the Night” honoree, including his last bout, a split decision defeat in a free-for-all with Diego Sanchez in June.

Machida is also prominent in the “pound-for-pound” discussion, made even more evident by his win over previously-unbeaten Evans at UFC 98 in May, in which “The Dragon’s” lightning-quick form and powerful striking was on full display. The undefeated (15-0) UFC light heavyweight champion is scheduled to make his first defense against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua on October 24.

Round 5 collectible figures may be purchased at leading North American retailers such as Toys ‘R’ Us, Kmart and Walmart. Other retailers can be found at www.round5mma.com/wheretobuy.php.

I sure hope there high quality i just put in a order for $980.00 worth with the variant green shorts of Coture at $279.00 alone, damn i can’t beleive i just paid that much for one figurine.
I also bought all the limited editon ones from 500 to up to 3000 only made of some of the biggest names in the sport, and Rampage Jackson was another $99.00 alone.
I sure hope i made a good investment

These are all for my 2yr old Grandson to sell when he graduates high school so hopefully by then there worth mega bucks.

Go Matt Hughs one tough S.O.B

  2. MMAKansas says:

yes… yes they do.. funny how wanderlei got his before chuck… lolz

    • Dr J says:

thats only because Round 5 just recently signed a partnership deal with the UFC. prior to that they couldn’t make a Chuck figurine because Chuck’s likeness rights are owned by Zuffa. Thats why, at the time, Jakks Pacific had the exclusive on Liddell. Now that Round 5 has formed a license deal with the UFC they are going to get all their guys most likely

  3. bvrasp says:

Doc, im surprised you dont have a preview for Kimbo vs Nelson hehe, biggest fight in TUF history.

For those of you who dont get Spike (Kansas) the channel is back up on the TVU player, get on that **** tonight baby starting 10pm est.

  4. Banned2 says:

when they gonna make a kimbo figure? lol

  5. R.J. St.Croix says:

and speaking of ol’Kimbo who seen the fight? if you havent and dont want it spoiled DO NOT read any farther…….

i knew right at the end of the first round that Roy was going to take Kimbo down and do the exact same thing, and aside from the one or two bombs (luckily Nelson has a chin) thats what happen. i think at this point Kimbo is a no go in MMA, anyone fighting him already has the blueprint to beat him. both Nelson and James Thomson showed if you put Kimbo on his back hes completely FUBAR’ed, he has almost zero defense and no offense. Nelson was talking about putting him in a crucifix and pidder patting him for the stoppage the night before the fight, and he even gave up mount to go to side so he could do it lol.

    • bvrasp says:

Man Roy clowned his ***, he even gave him a chance by standing up for a while until he started getting tagged. Those little shots on the ground were ridiculous though, Roy made himself look bad because of that. He failed in making it an entertaining fight and Dana was clearly pissed off about that considering the ratings are going in the toilet now.

Is it just me or did they start talking about Kimbo getting a second shot in the show before the fight was even over lol. I bet Kimbo get 3 fights on TUF before its all over.

Is he a no go for MMA, i dunno man, this was taped a while ago and theres still a long time to go before he gets to fight in the UFC. If hes been training hard with the best coaches out there in this time, he might have learned to sprawl. I think Kimbo still has potential if he learns to actually fight.

Hes such a big draw that it would be a good investment to try and teach him how to hold his own atleast. It should be interesting to see what happens.

  6. Banned2 says:

Has the TUF show ever had someone that lost in round 1 get another fight in round one do to injury? I know they have had it happen later in show but why shouldn’t someone that hasn’t fought yet get a fight before Kimbo gets 2. I mean how injured does someone have to be to miss their fight and not be able to fight later on in round 1? I like the old format of you lose you go home but I guess we will never see that again. This has been basically the Kimbo show and Dana is making me sick riding the Kimbo nut hugger train. What was the difference between what Roy did compared to what hughes did to BJ? nothing! the fight should have been stopped in round one they gave him 30 seconds of not defending himself so he could have another chance in round 2. I’m surprised they didn’t have dan mirgleota ref it and stand them up when Roy had side control. lol

    • bvrasp says:

lol Banned, Hughes was punching BJ in the face with a little power, Roy was hitting Kimbo on the top of the head with zero power but other than that, no difference.

The reason Herb didnt stop it in the 1st was because the keyboard warriors would have BLASTED him the next day hehe. After another 30 sec in the 2nd round, it was obvious thats all Roy was gonna do so he stopped it.

    • R.J. St.Croix says:

the one major difference between Kimbo/Nelson and BJ/Hughes is the power and intent of the shots being thrown, Hughes was throwing some hard punches AND elbows and they were landing on BJs face while Roys shots looked like they had nothing on them and the ones that didnt land on his own belly where hitting Kimbo on the top of the head. a win is a win and Nelson most definitely won the fight, but the cheese was thick on that win and in a situation where your fighting in front of the president of the biggest company in your sport you might wanna show him something more then a gut smother and some baby punches. if you paid $49.99 to see that on P.P.V. would you have been happy with that fight? could Roy have tried a bit harder, try a submission, knock Kimbo out, something? Nelson showed Kimbo had NOTHING for him on the ground, and how did he take advantage of that…. by doing next to nothing lol.

  7. R.J. St.Croix says:

Doc there is an add right over there —->
with three dudes holding up each other shirts showing off there **** abs….. the pic is…. well…. are you trying to appeal to a new audience? lol.

  8. Banned2 says:

I think the UFC should do another TUF comeback show with heavyweights middleweights maybe light heavy put people like arlovski sylvia beuntello werdeum robbie Lawler nick diaz frank shamrock joe riggs and Babalu. I’m sure there is more talent out their that use to be in the UFC they could use but I’m drawing a blank. I just think it would be funny to see sylvia and arlovski have to go threw the show to get back in.lol

  9. wayne says:

Oh and by the way he will not be opening these up to play with, they will be stored away in a safe place in mint condition for at least 16 yrs.

  10. wayne says:

I think Kimbo should have gotten in the UFC years ago when he was in his prime instead of fighting on the street for hardly nothin, but instead he signs a contract at the end of his fighting days and get’s his *** kicked in front of millions of viewers now. The guy should hang it up.

  11. wayne says:

I still think the old days of UFc we’re the best, no weight classes just good old dirty fighting, the bone breaking days.

Royce Gracie, Tank Abbott, Ken Shamrock, Dan Severn, Randy Coture, ect

  12. wayne says:

Georger Rush St Pierre and Anderson the spider Silva have got to be the toughest champions ever in there weight groups but i think Machidas days are numbered. If Matt Hughs can’t get his belt back then George has got to be one tough S.O.B to hold him off.

  13. wayne says:

    For sale
randy coture MMA action figure (variant) green shorts.

I paid $279.00 2 hrs ago but will let it go for $1200.00 cash
