International superstar Jean Claude Van Damme may be throwing his hat into the ring in a Muay Thai rules K-1 fight sometime during 2010. Rumors have been flying around since this past September when Van Damme first expressed interest in returning to the ring. With 18 wins all coming by way of Knockout and 1 loss by decision, JCVD has an impressive fight record in professional Kickboxing and Full Contact Karate. Of course, his last fight was back in 1980, yup 30 years ago. His reported opponent, Thai born Somluck Kamsing a veteran of 250 Muay Thai fights and 300 boxing matches has also won an Olympic gold medal at the 1996 games in the Featherweight Boxing division.
While you would expect this rumor to shrink and disappear, the reality is quite the opposite. This past January, Kamsing signed a fight contract promising him a guaranteed $175,000 US with a 2% share from the broadcast revenue. This fight is scheduled for 5 2 minute rounds, Muay Thai rules but Van Damme insisted that elbows be disallowed because cuts would negatively affect his acting career. Originally rumored to take place in March, the fight has been pushed back to October of this year according to the Bangkok Post.
Still don’t believe it? here’s a video of Jean Claude discussing his plans for 2010, his fight with Kamsing, his new film “the Tower” and 3 reality show ideas.

Honestly, I am really interested in this fight. I hope it happens and look forward to watching it when it does.
I really had no idea that VanDamme had a blowout winning record all by KO’s .. never took him THAT seriously. He’s older now, and I know he has an itch to prove he’s still relevant, perhaps light a fire under his acting career.
This could backfire in a major way, or blow a second wind into the sails of his movies. I hope he pulls it off, I am rooting for him.
Same here Kansas. Im pulling for Van Damme, he’s had such a rough time lately with the drug problems, his family problems and money problems. He did it all to himself with his terrible attitude (he really was a douche for a while) but he seems to have really matured now that hes getting older and it looks like he’s a genuinely nice guy these days. Also his acting has been much better the past few years even though its only in low budget movies.
Im not sure how much a backfire would affect him at this point, he’s got nothing to lose really except for maybe his past legacy. Im looking forward to this fight too, lets see what the old dogs got left in him hehe.
I like old dog fights man except when it’s couture and coleman, I am sure when they lock up we will all get a hit of nostalgia, they are both the oldest two veterans currently in the UFC and they are both hall of famers so it’s cool – I just hope the fight delivers something worth watching.
Any of you guys notice Wanderlei Silva is training with his old coach, not just for photo op’s – he’s literally in California like everyday now training with other fighters, instead of just with Mike Whitehead –
My concerns are somewhat abated because I think if he’s training with Raphael and in a camp full of young Chuteboxe type sharks, then he’s returning to his element, his knee strikes were sic in the video posted on bloody elbow.
RJSC will definitely be cheering for JCVD!!!! bonne chance mon ami!
I’ve only ever known JCVD as an 80′s movie guy. To read this was surreal. I definitely want to watch this fight. I can’t help but think that after 30 years of stunt doubles and coordinated fight scenes Van Damme might be in over his head. Can’t wait though.
agreed on all points andrew
has any seen JCVD the movie?????its really good.
I saw it Rich.. I liked it, I saw things from his side of the screen and it makes sense.
Im afraid Claude will be pound hard, I wish he’d just stick to acting.
I hope he’ll win though…GO CLAUDE!!!
Whatever JCVD, stick to making bad movies… Bloodsport you ain’t no more, just an *******…
Tell me why is he fighting a featherweight to boot??
#1 Bloodsport was NOT a bad movie.
#2 how exactly does a movie become an assshole?
#3 im guessing the idea of fighting at featherweight is something to do with his weight.
#4 could you have picked an older post to make noise about, did you hear Mike Tyson is trying to get a fight in PRIDE?
RJ, I was referring to his character in Bloodsport, it was a great show, thus, “Bloodsport you AIN’T no more” and, he’s the *******, freind of mine managed a sushi joint here in Vancouver and the guy was a complete *** and would embarrass everyone, then not even leave a tip for being a **** head
Featherweight? That means the guy’s gotta be 40 pounds lighter?? If he’s going to get beat up he should at least get beat the beat down from someone of similiar weight… Kamsing has 550 fights plus a gold at the OLy’s just 14 years ago! He’s obviously going to have to hold back from embarrassing him
Tyson in pride, Yah, heard about it, bring it on!!! Though I think if he fights anyone decent he’ll go down like a little girl…
no explanation needed man, i was just rattling your cage a bit. i do that form time to time lol.
p.s. you know PRIDE is gone right? the Tyson thing was kinda an ongoing joke around here because people still comment on a post about it that was put up like 4 years ago.
I think Van Damme should fight that guy from blood sport …..Bolo
that would be better for him and at least he would have a chance to win
i wouldnt bet money on JCVD over Bolo, that guy is bad asss
He certainly was 40 years ago. The man is 72 now, though.
damn man i never really thought about how old Bolo Yeung is. hes one of those timeless types, always looks the same no matter how old he is.
I didn’t realize Bolo was that old either, he was actually 50 when he did Bloodsport! That dude was in great shape, check out some recent pics of him… He looks even scarier these days lol.
Bolo would still eat JCVD for breakfast!
I can understand some of you guys hating JCVD, he had a very rough time in his life. Once he reached his prime as an actor, he was heavy into drugs and his ego was ridiculous to the point where he burned every single bridge in hollywood because of his attitude. Nobody is more emphatic about it that Jean Claude, he fully admits his mistakes and wishes he could have done things differently, but that’s life man.
He knows he was a ****, but he can’t change the past. These days he doesn’t behave that way, he’s off the blow and the personal issues of his family are also pretty much behind him now. I like the guy, he made mistakes like everyone does (if to a much larger scale) and he’s trying to get his life back together.
Talking about acting.. he’s no Bobby DeNiro, but his acting ability is WAY better now than it was in the Bloodsport days. Of course he wasn’t there for acting ability, it was his physique, etc.. If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the movie “JCVD” and you will see what I mean.
I would love to see a past star turned screw up get his redemption and have some success again after he made amends and turned his life around. Nothing better than a real life redemption. Good luck to you JCVD, some of us are still pulling for you!
speak to em brother B! lol
