This Friday, Sarah Kaufman will be defending her 135-lb. belt against Roxanne Modafferi at ShoMMA 9: Del Rosario vs. Mahe.
Here’s a quick recap on the two fighters. Sarah Kaufman (11-0, #1 IWMMAR) is the champ. She’s got great conditioning and great hands. Although 8 of her wins have come by TKO or KO, her last three fights were all decision victories.
Facing Kaufman is Roxanne Modafferi (15-5, #2 IWMMAR), who is coming off a controversial split decision win over Tara LaRosa (18-2). Modafferi is originally from the US but has been training in Japan, and has won 8 out of her last 9 fights.
Roxy’s got an excellent ground game, but Sarah has a mean sprawl. And Sarah’s got stellar hands, but Roxy’s fared very well against other stand-up fighters and has never lost by knock-out. Roxy has more experience, but Sarah is from Canada and has a hometown-esque advantage. Most of Roxy’s wins have come by decision, but she’s stated that she wants to press the action forward.
I’ve been racking my brain and trying to call this fight. I know that there will be a winner, but for once, I’m stumped. For the life of me I can’t even make a case for who the winner will be.
Anyway, we’ve all seen Roxy vs. Tara’s video which bvrasp posted. So here’s some footage of Sarah Kaufman against wrestler Miesha Tate.
