The internet exploded after UFC 143′s fight between Carlos Condit and Nick Diaz. Many fans were upset with the decision, to put it mildly, and Diaz’s talk of retirement in his post-fight interview made the eagerly anticipated grudge match with GSP seem less and less possible for the future. Fight fans who were upset with the decision will now get the rematch they’ve been waiting for. When @justScrap85 asked Dana White if rumors of a rematch that had been floating around were true, Dana White responded: “the rumor is true. Condit did accept the fight today and Carlos is coming on Friday not thurs.” Coming to Las Vegas, that is, to finalize the deal.
My Analysis: I was in the not-so-vocal minority for this fight. Like Dana White, I scored it in favor of Carlos Condit. Although Diaz kept moving forward, I thought Condit landed more strikes (and CompuStrike agreed), countered Diaz’s attacks with good movement and footwork, and in general effectively neutralized his game. (Incidentally, I thought Mike Pierce defeated Josh Koscheck, but that’s neither here nor there.)
However, with GSP sitting on the sidelines for up to a year or longer–and Condit holding the interim belt–turning down a rematch doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. GSP, Condit and Diaz are the highest ranked welterweights. Although I was originally intrigued by the possibility of Koscheck vs. Diaz or even someone like Hendricks vs. Condit, throwing them into the mix would not have the same appeal–or storyline.
Will Condit vs. Diaz II look different? How?

I completely agree that I think Condit won. I mean, moving forward aggressively doesn’t take precedence over someone who’s landing more strikes. I also agree with the Mike Pierce and Koscheck fight. I thought Pierce definitely had it, but I had a feeling the judges were going to give it to Kos.
Condit won, period. Diaz was left there standing around like a fool again and again as Condit did a little damage, bailed out and set himself up to do it again. At some point, Carlos has to be wondering, “Just how long will it be before he wakes up and adapts? What’s behind his head that is so important that he will protect it with his face?”
Did you think Diaz looked off? As much as I don’t think he deserves it, the rematch will be interesting.
I know condit outscored Diaz by compuscore but that tells us nothing. He was point sparring, with strikes with no commitment in them. Diaz won at least rounds 1,2 and 5 and maybe 3 as well. Also if you dont believe Diaz was landing harder strikes, then how come Carlos is on a medical ban for facial damage and diaz aint
This is not true. It is not official yet. Diaz’s camp won’t accept the fight for some odd reason. Look at the links to the right of this page. or press ctrl+F and type “rematch in jeopardy”. Why give this big baby everything he wants? Diaz clearly loss. Condit was a matador to a raging bull. I would rather see Rory Macdonald vs. Condit again. Give Diaz someone else to fight.
