The dust may have barely settled on Jon Jones’s successful title defence this past Saturday but Dana White has already confirmed who young phenom will be facing next. Jones was taken the full twenty five minutes for the first time in his career this weekd enas he comprehensively outstruck Rashad Evans to retain his title in fairly workmanlike fashion.
Next up for the young champion will be the revitalised Dan Henderson who is riding a rich vein of form that has seen him win seven of his last eight fights in three different weight categories. Hendo, speaking with USA Today, briefly outlined his strategy for defeating the dominant champion.
“You’ve really got to get inside and fight with him and end up in the clinch with him a lot. Jones is better than most guys in the clinch. … (But) that’s where I’m most comfortable. At the same time I need to be real careful with catching one of those goofy elbows that he throws.” – Dan Henderson
By defeating Rashad Evans; light heavyweight champion Jones moves his unbeaten run to seven wins with his only career defeat coming as a result of a disqualification loss over Matt Hamill.
