Featherweight champion Jose Aldo (21-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) will defend his belt against Erik Koch (13-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) as the headliner of UFC 149 from Calgary, Canada.
The card, scheduled to take place on July 21 at Calgary’s Scotiabank Saddledome, was also rumoured to feature a light heavyweight championship bout between Jon Jones (16-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) and Dan Henderson (29-8 MMA, 5-2 UFC) but this has not been officially confirmed.
Jose Aldo is currently riding a incredible fourteen fight winning streak which saw him grab the WEC featherweight belt from Mike Brown at the end of 2009 and defend the UFC featherweight title three times against Mark Hominick, Kenny Florian and Chad Mendes.
Eric “New Breed” Koch also cut his teeth in the WEC, racking up a 3-1 record, before making the jump to the UFC following the merger. Koch stopped Raphael Assuncao at UFC 128 in very impressive fashion before taking out TUF winner Jonathan Brookins at UFC Fight Night 25 this past September.
The card will also see the return of legendary heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (33-7-1 MMA, 4-3 UFC) after he suffered a broken arm at the hands of Frank Mir as he takes on hard hitting Frenchman Cheick Kongo (17-7-2 MMA, 10-5-1 UFC).
