Light heavyweights Mauricio Rua (20-6 MMA, 4-4 UFC) and Thiago Silva (14-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC) have agreed to meet at UFC 149 in Calgary.
UFC president Dana White tweeted to confirm the bout, set for July 21st from Calgary’s Scotiabank Saddledome, on a card headlined by a featherweight title fight between champion Jose Aldo and Eric Koch.
Both fighters will be coming into this bout off the back of disappointing losses, albeit in competitive fights, as Thiago Silva was outpointed by Alexander Gustafsson in Sweden and Maurico Rua lost the fight of the year in late 2011 to Dan Henderson.
Neither fighter will want to post back to back losses in a very competitive light heavyweight division and, with a combined tally of 28 knockouts, it seems unlikely that this one will trouble the judges.
