Both Jose Aldo and Jon Jones now officially have their next opponents in place as the UFC this week confirmed two high profile title headliners for the upcoming months.
UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones (16-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) will meet Dan Henderson (29-8 MMA, 5-2 UFC), as previously rumoured, but the bout will headline UFC 151 on Sept 1st not UFC 149 as originally speculated.
That job will fall to Erik Koch (13-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) who steps up to challenge dominant champion Jose Aldo (21-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) on July 21st at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Jon Jones’s recent title victory against Rashad Evans at UFC 145 firmly cemented him at the top of the division and it’ll be up to former Strikeforce and Pride champion Dan Henderson to dethrone the young champion in a fight that he enters as a long underdog.
Henderson comes into this fight after winning the fight of the year in 2011 with a decision victory over Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 139.
Eric Koch, at just 23 years of age, has enjoyed a meteoric rise to title competition after a four fight winning streak was capped off with a decision victory against TUF12 winner Jonathan Brookins this past September.
He’ll also be a heavy underdog in this featherweight title bout as Jose Aldo has looked nothing short of phenomenal in defending his UFC belt three times against Mark Hominick, Kenny Florian and Chad Mendes.
