In a weekend packed full of action from a whole host of promotions; most fans are still talking about the knockout that Roger Huerta suffered at ONE FC.
Huerta’s high point was famously being the first mma fighter to feature on the cover of Sports Illustrated back in 2007 but has struggled since leaving the UFC in 2009.
El Matador has gone 1-6 in his last seven fights but yesterday’s loss to dangerous Brazilian Zorobabel Moreira was one of the nastiest knockouts in the post Pride mma landscape.
After a good start, Huerta slowed down and the shots from his Brazilian opponent seemed to quickly mount up. In the end it was a failed takedown attempt that put Huerta in a tough spot and Moreira jumped on the opportunity with a knockout that was as calculated as it was brutal. Soccer kicks, legal under ONE FC’s ruleset, are a very controversial part of mixed martial arts history and this knockout is clearly a savage reminder why.

I don’t know about y’all but I’m glad that unified rules do not allow soccer kicks anymore fighters are becoming more strong more and more conditioned and if they allow soccer kicks somebody is going to die in the ring from it
ya i do belive catchin a kick from someone like silva or dosantos to the lips like that you may never fight again. or even breathe again for that matter.
I think there’s more dangerous things to worry about than soccer kicks but I can see why the UFC, for example, wouldn’t allow them.
If that soccer kick would have happened on FOX it probably would have sparked some kind of media riot.
