Well, after much waiting and a lot of development on my part, the MMA HQ Top Ten Rankings site is finally ready for beta testing. Those of you who are regulars here at MMA HQ are going to get the first crack at the site. You can find the new MMA Rankings site at www.mmahq.net
I’m pretty excited about this site and I think you will be too. There are close to a dozen MMA websites out there today who put out their own top ten rankings every few weeks. Every time the rankings are released MMA fans all over the internet complain about how bad the rankings are.
Well, now is the time to quit complaining and change all that. Go to mmahq.net and vote for who you think are the top ten fighters in each weightclass. Everyone has a vote and everyone has equal chance at determining the TRUE MMA top ten rankings. It’s a well known fact that the more input you have, the more accurate the results will be. The more MMA fans signup and vote, the more accurate the rankings will be.
The hope is to get our rankings, the rankings of MMA fans, be recognized as the best rankings on the internet and each and every MMA fan can be a part of that. You don’t have to be an editor or contributor of your own MMA site to make rankings - now everyone has a voice. I’ve already entered the rankings from Sherdog, MMAWeekly, IrishWhip, 411Mania, FiveOuncesOfPain and, of course, my own rankings and it’s pretty interesting to see the overall results.
At mmahq.net, rankings will take place over two week periods. The first week will be when you can actually vote, and then those rankings will stand for the next week. When that 14 day period is over, the voting will be opened again and the everyone can vote. You can also post messages and have discussions with other voters on each fighter on the site. Don’t think someone should be ranked who is ranked? Post a message and see why people are voting for him.
So, signup and use the site. I’m hoping you guys who are my regular readers here at MMA HQ will get on board and “test” the site out for me. I’m sure there are some bugs on the site and some things that just don’t work quite right or just don’t make sense. Leave a comment here or send me an email and let me know any questions or problems you find for the site. Also email me any ideas or suggestions you have that would make the site better. Once everything seems to be going well, then its time for you guys to help me spread the word on all the other MMA sites and get tons of people to join.
But most of all, make sure to vote. Once a few thousand MMA fans start voting on the rankings, we will all have a better sense of who the real top ten are in each weightclass.

@Dr.J
Site looks nice, i been having some problems dragging names over, sometimes it doesnt register after the first time. Then for some reason, it stops registering the picks altogether and it kind of locks up the page, cant refresh or go back or do anything except browse away or close the window.
The site blows other MMA ranking sites away. Awesome job. I love the fact that you can search for a fighter if he isn’t listed, which is what I did in the LHW rankings. My only complaint is, at one point I dragged a fighter’s name into place by mistake. Then I couldn’t drag it back, so I was stuck giving that fighter a #6 ranking he didn’t deserve. Outside of that though, I love it.
@ Gatties,
I guess I need to make that a little easier to understand. If you put a guy in a spot you don’t want him in, you can just drag a new fighter on top of that spot again and he will be replaced. You just keep dragging new guys into the spot you want even if someone is already there and the last guy you dropped will always be the guy in that spot. Maybe I need to make a way to “remove” a fighter from a spot just so there isn’t any confusion.
@Gatties,
I love the Landon Donavon pic too, btw
@BV
Sorry you are having those errors. What browser and version are you using when you are having problems dragging the names and locking up the page? I’ll take a look at it for you.
Seems similar to mmaplaygrounds ranking system.
http://mmaplayground.com/top-10-mma-fighters.aspx
Seems to end up more of a way for people to rank their favorite fighters as opposed to a true ranking system. Cool nonetheless. Good work
Lando is my guy, even though I’m a Chicago Fire fan. As for your explanation, that makes sense. I probably should have thought of that. Oh Well, Carlos Condit gets a higher ranking from me than he deserves, no real harm in that…haha.
If you want people to promote the site, maybe come up with a few graphics people can place in their forum sigs or banner/buttons we can place on websites? I would love to see this thing take off.
***** YEA DOC
Doc, im using IE 7, had the problem about 3 times where it locked up.. it was while i was trying to make picks for welter and light heavy.. but i kept revisiting the site until it worked, so i got all my rankings in there now. Dunno what the problem was..
DOC IT WONT EVEN LET ME LOG IN?

@Gatties,
I actually do have some banners already, I just didn’t add them to the site yet. You can download them now from here:
http://www.mmahq.com/wp-content/misc/mmahq_banners.zip
There are six different banners and sizes in there. If you find something or a size you want instead let me know. Thanks for the support
Your way ahead of me doc, thanks

i cant get in either whats up?
@Richard
Go to your email… click on the link to confirm, then go for it..
@Richard and MMAKansas,
Not being sarcastic here, but did you guys not see the notice after you signed up that said
“Thanks for signing up! Please check your email for your activation email.”
If people aren’t seeing that maybe I need to make it more obvious somehow that you need to check your email first to activate your account.
@Doc
Not offended doc.. didn’t see it, you should make it more obvious…
Should be interesting to see just how more obvious Doc makes it. Short of flashing lights and naked broads, not sure how more obvious he could make it.
Perhaps he should put a retard in a gorilla suit out there to point at it Gatties… or just you.. that would be the same I guess…
Like the loser you have in your gravitar… the icegirl looks pretty don’t she???lol

Thanks man. I’ll see what I can do to clean that up a bit.
Thanks to everyone whoe signed up. I actually had quite a bit more signup than I expected but everything held together well.
I think once I get a few more features in by the end of this week, them I’m going to call on you guys here to help me spread the word on the site. We had about 50 people enter rankings yesterday and I think we all can already see the value of the system. The rankings in each division look pretty good and pretty accurate, and its interesting to see the difference within the rankings of each division and the point spread between fighters. For instance, the top 4 guys in the heavyweight division are all within 100 points of each other, but the number 5 guys is almost 100 points behind the number 4 guy.
Again, any ides and suggestions / features you guys want to see or you think would make it useful, let me know.
Doc i think you should put Frank Shamrock up there man hehe, lets not be biased now..
Doc i think you should put Frank Shamrock up there man hehe, lets not be biased now..
Hey, if you wanna vote for Frank, go right ahead, haha. Just don’t expect me too.
hes not on the list.. i checked MW and LH.. do you have to add him or something?
i mean would you rank guys like marquardt and mayhem miller above Frank? seriously.
@MMAKansas
Seriously. How can you justify Rua as the #1 LHW after his loss to Forrest Griffin??
LOL which one of you clowns voted Melendez up to the #3 in the world spot??? someone please explain that one to me..
@Dr.J
Heres a suggestion, unless i missed it, how do i see individual members picks? i couldnt even find a members list. Let me know where to find it if i missed it, but i definately think you should implement it if not.
hes not on the list.. i checked MW and LH.. do you have to add him or something?
BV, you can add any fighter in MMA. I have over 35,000 in the database. Just go to the fighters page and search for Frank, he’s there. When you are on the voting page, there is a search box on the right sidebar that you can use to search for any fighter. You don’t only have to pick fighters that other people have used. You can add anyone you want with the search box.
Personally, I wouldn’t rank Frank SHamrock in the top 10, no.

You can view a users picks by going to his profile page. For instance, my page is here:
http://www.mmahq.net/users/1-dr-j
Right now I don’t have any way for you to search users or anything so other than clicking on their profile in the recent voters list or in the fighter discussion threads on the fighter pages, you would have to know the link to their profile.
I’m trying to come up with a good way to implement a user profile section so you can find users easier.
Doc, the only problem with typing in their name in the address bar is that you also need their member number i guess you would call it. Thats the problem really, so if that was gone, it be easier to find guys from here on the site, assuming their using the same name.

Right, you will need their user number to just type it in. Thats what I’m saying, I’ll have to put together some kind of user directory where you can search for users. Not everyone is using the same username they have here on MMA HQ so there will need to be some kind of search feature. I’ve added it to the list and will work something out.
I’ve got a list of features that still need to be added and that will get worked in at some point.
Doc, thats good as long as its not some kind of an anonamous voting thing… people should have to stand behind their picks man hehe
Doc, thats good as long as its not some kind of an anonamous voting thing… people should have to stand behind their picks man hehe
yeah its definitely not going to be anonymous at all. You’ll be able to view anyones rankings at any time. That will keep integrity in the system. Eventually, there will be a feature where you can “report” users who are entering bogus votes (like just random guys no one has heard of, things like that).
ALso, I’m going to add in a messaging/post system for each user just like there is right now on the figthter pages. That way if you think someone voted like garbage, you can post on their profile saying so and wait for them to defend themself.

Drehog… look again, Rua is not the #1 LHW on my picks list, he is #2 amigo… by the way, one loss doesn’t constitute a drastic jump DOWN the ladder… just like one win against a great name doesn’t constitute a drastic jump UP the ladder, ie forrest..
Wand is my #1 pick, and for Todd and all the Chuck fans… we will see which one of those guys is the best soon enough if Dana will quit punishing us MMA bloggers for being the worst of the worst and just get the darn fight signed…
Great stuff..
