- So, there really isn’t much you can say about the Kimbo Slice vs Seth Petruzelli fight. It was over as soon as it started and EliteXC suffers what may be a near fatal blow for the promotion.
- The Paul Daley vs. Jake Shields fight was fun to watch. Shields, once again, looked dominant at the start of the fight, but it looked like Daley was doing some damage on the feet towards the end of the first round. Second round was all Shields though and he finished the fight in typical fashion. Its amazing how easily Shields is able to pass guard and get the full mount on any opponent. Makes you wonder why it’s so hard for some other fighters to do the same.
- Andrei Arlovski continues to show sharp, technical striking skills and I’d love to see him battle Fedor Emelianenko sometime in 2009. Surprisingly enough for a guy with a beer gut, Roy Nelson’s best shot in this fight was on the ground and he looked close to securing a submission midway through the first round. Arlovski is just too good to fall to someone like Nelson, and he proved it last night.
- As exciting as the first round of the Benji Radach vs Murilo Rua fight was, it was also very sloppy. Radach seemed to punch himself out after about two minutes and Rua did well to stay conscious and work his BJJ game on Radach. Radach paced himself in the second round, and took advantage of an unfortunate slip by Rua to end the fight with some solid strikes to the downed Brazilian.
- Gina Carano looked solid again. Sharp kicks and strikes, but I’m still not confident she’ll be able to stand in the pocket against someone like Cristiane Santos. On another note, can’t Carano just cut the crap and start fighting at 145 lbs. instead of 140? She clearly can’t hack cutting down that far.
- Every time I see Frank Shamrock wearing those braces, I crack up laughing.
- It was a little surprising hearing all the excuses the CBS announcing team was making for Kimbo “Glass Jaw” Slice after the fight. He lost because he got clipped and couldn’t cover up. Plain and simple.
- You know Dana White is in a high state of elation after watching one of “his” ultimate fighters knocking off EliteXC’s top dog.
LMAO when i read “Every time I see Frank Shamrock wearing those braces, I crack up laughing.” i got an image of Frank with a huge sparkly grin on his face in my head LOL.
believe you me something was fishy about that whole kimbo thing… you ask me kimbo took a dive…
i just dont see the whole “Kimbo took a dive” thing, what did anyone have to gain by Kimbo getting KOed and quick? unless Kimbo wanted to kill his own hype and fad away, but i doubt that seeing as hes probably making more money now then hes even made in the past. fighters dont just lose fights on purpose just for something to do, they need something to give them a reason and i just cant think of a legit motive for Kimbo to throw the fight. i think people are looking to deep into this, sometimes a crappy punch lands on the right spot with just enough force and boom your sleeping (or almost there) it doesnt take a huge amount of force to KO someone you just need everything to line up right, or the other guys has his mouth open, or he hasn’t been hit clean enough times before, or hes suffered a resent concussion. i dont know its just the way i see it anyways.
i dont think he took a dive either there was no phantom punch or anything like that he pulled a james thompson, running at his opponent like a idiot and the punch mixed with his momentum did him in actually kimbo probably had just as much to do with the ko as seth.
true man, ive seen people get rocked BAD from sloppier punches then that because they just happened to lean in the wrong way or they were to busy talking sh*t and got caught with there yap open a bit to far.
i dont think elitexc is done they need to start making these superfights happen to get hardcore fans watching, FU*CK all these kimbo fans if they start marketing to use hardcore fans who could care less if kimbos fighting or not then i think they might have a chance
Richard, I agree somewhat. If elite xc wants to have really any hope of thriving or even staying afloat they are gonna need to do one of two things,
1) Like you said start marketing to hardcore fans
2) Fully merge with Affliction not just this small one fight deal, Im talking a full buy-out merger. This would give the combined promotion a deeper roster of bigger names as well as a larger bankroll to do more. IMO
yea ur right i just realized something
KIMBO SUCKS!
