The back half is elastic and there is a drawstring.I just got my white and black pair in the mail.

They looked small but fit great. I ordered a 32 and I wear a 33. They stretched fine and felt like I could roll in them without issue, as I had a full ROM stretching (haven't used them yet). My size 32 nogi volt shorts don't fit anymore so I'm glad these do. They seem like they'll fit when I can lose a few pounds too. Here is the sizing from their website.
