I say go 16oz. That way if you intend to spar, you won't hear it from your partner. The glove is pretty compact and I'd personally recommend the 12oz for solely bag work. Fairtex makes a special glove solely for bag work but if you want to condense the costs and want an all around glove, the BVG1 is perfect.

I'd used these gloves solely for pad work. I have Ringside IMF that i use for sparring that are great just for that. I currently have a pair of 16 oz Windy BGNU that i use for bag and pad work. I've had these gloves for a good 2 years and still are in amazing great condition, but i think I would like a new pair of gloves strictly for pad work. I just don't want the gloves to be too tight. as i bought a pair of throwdowns a couple weeks back from here, they had decent reviews, for 30 bucks i took a gamble on 12 oz, and they were way too tight for my hands. ended up giving them to my little brother, but I don't think they were for pad/bag work.

Ah I see, well depending on the type of pads that you have, you could go with either. If your focus mitts are kind of dense, maybe it'd be better to go with 12oz since there's is less padding, making for a pretty tough hit. If you go with the 16oz and you have a Fairtex product like FMV9, the padding might bounce off the dense core.

I usually use my 16 oz gloves for sparring or light mitt/pad work, since the goal of the pads is accuracy and not power. I got for 12oz gloves for bag work, since they tend to hold up better against the density of the bag. I was always afraid that I would shred the padding if I used my 16oz. As far as the tightness of the glove, don't get me wrong, it's not necessarily tight, but a more snug fit -makes you feel like the glove fits well, is secure and won't slide around. I had a pair of Everlast Protex 14oz gloves I bought as a beginner but my wrist kept moving around and the glove was so flimsy and bulky, I eventually upgraded to the Fairtex BVG1.

Are these the newer tight-fit BVG1s Fairtex are releasing or is it the older BVG1s that are looser? Is blue the only color? Kinda wish this was in black.

The super old BVG1s were awesome gloves but some preferred a tighter fit to make the glove more compact. I like a more compact glove like Hayabusa but since I do Muay Thai, those gloves are too compact that they don't allow room to clinch. The newer BVG1s have a tighter fit than the earlier models but I just wanted to clarify. I prefer black gloves and Fairtex.com is having a sale on their gloves so I wanted to compare.
